Contentious Proclivity

The Bible says to follow your leaders

Even if you are a slave

But Moses knew when

It was time to walk away

There will always be

A sacrifice to pay

Always pain

Always scars

The message today

Is to be who you are

Free will

Will test your heart

Solidify your merit

Or cloak you in abuse

If you so choose to wear it

Dare me to survive or die

Beware my strength to challenge

Powers that be

In desperate need

Of discipline to balance

Or need to feel the wrath

As Goliath did not study

Simple course of David’s math

Or resolve to take to task

What righteousness deserted

For lust and greed and vanity

Where sin has always flirted

Through race,

Ethnicity

Or any other

Contentious proclivity

Retarding education

Provided in history

Modesty surmises

Plainly seeing

What everyone’s demise is

Is to be a human being
