New American Acculturation
Are you just like me
There because it’s a place to be
Where everything is happening
But you
Blow another smoke ring
And toast with what you’re drinking
Another day
Hooray you made it through
It seems to be so hard today
To tell what’s staged, prepared or candid
Where underachieving fools are praised
And honest opinions reprimanded
If any should wage protest to a protest
How is this
anything but grotesque
Who are these self-suppressed
Offended by success
I find this to be offensive
They should seek a better cause
They want and want
But will not invest
It seems to be
They would rather cling
To their duress and flaws
Captured by the hype and fractured rights
I might chime in to my chagrin
And offer up my gripes
As if I might be wise
One could mistakenly surmise
From my proud display of stripes
Logic makes us think
Emotions make us act
Current propaganda
Simply doesn’t change the facts
Or does it?
Who loves it?
If it’s everybody’s right
How can’t it be offensive
or even hatred
When differing beliefs
Are, in denial, tolerated
Is this a joke
Are we on camera
Everyone’s a card
Waiting to play Trump
So hard
Just to get the chest bump
No real improvements made
All attempts delayed as planned
No victory at hand
If one can’t win
Then all will be the loser
Power to the schmoozer
Once somewhat entertaining
But all this blaming
Is nothing more than paining
Overstimulating
Our stamina tested
By running mouths
Better off rested
Progress stands in wait
Held hostage by debate
Where neither will relent
And all our time is spent
Standing by like vultures
To claim the rotting carcass
Of this new American culture
