True Expectations
If you lead with,
“To be honest”
Should I assume you often lie
In a bed of controversy
Let the accusations fly
To the ears of co-conspirators
Like angry butterflies
That everybody loves
But wonders why
Misery loves company
When there is someone else to blame
Or a sympathetic ear to ease
The harsh attack of shame
Though you simply can’t escape
From the unrelenting fate
Of guilty conscience
Or ever overstate
The underlying pain
That is the constant
Without Consideration
Of the trading in of vanity
For the best that you can get
By way of lethal dose of sanity
Will be the killer of regret
Where all is duly vetted
Pride and alibi defected
Safely unprotected
Truth to be reflected
What you see is what you get
